How we ranked the brands
Three factors matter for reseller margin: wholesale price (what you pay), current online market retail (what customers actually pay - not the manufacturer's RRP), and search volume (how many customers are actively looking).
Our rankings below combine all three. High-search-volume brands with strong wholesale-to-market spread rank highest.
Tier A: highest margin, strong volume
1. TAG Heuer
Wholesale on a Carrera Calibre 5 in our catalogue runs around £550. Current online market on the same reference: £1,800-£2,300 depending on condition disclosure. That is a 68-75% gross margin at market retail on a piece with extremely high search intent - buyers know exactly what they want.
Best sellers: Carrera Calibre 5, Aquaracer 300M, Formula 1 Chronograph. Ex-display disclosure required for most references. See our TAG Heuer wholesale page for full pricing.
2. Gucci
The G-Timeless and G-Frame collections perform exceptionally well on Instagram and gifting-focused e-commerce. Wholesale from £210, market retail £750-£1,100. Around 70% gross margin at market.
Best sellers: G-Timeless 38mm, G-Frame ladies, Dive collection. Strong Q4 gifting seasonality.
3. Movado
Museum Classic and Bold collections carry premium perception at accessible prices. Wholesale from £294, market retail £500-£900. Around 40-60% gross margin depending on model.
Strong performance in North American gifting market particularly.
Tier B: reliable margin, high consistency
4. Michael Kors
The volume champion. 220+ references in the catalogue, gifting-driven, consistent Q4 spike. Wholesale from £60, market retail £150-£280. Margin per piece is modest (30-40%) but volume compensates. If you can sell 20+ pieces per week, MK is a workhorse category.
Best sellers: Parker chronograph, Runway, Bradshaw.
5. Hugo Boss
Menswear attach category. Wholesale from £75, market retail £200-£400. Around 45-55% gross margin. Strong performance for menswear e-commerce brands and corporate gifting.
Best sellers: Grand Prix chronograph, Champion, Skymaster.
6. Tissot
Swiss Made credentials at accessible-luxury price point. PRX collection has been a runaway hit since 2021. Wholesale from £170, market retail £400-£800. Around 50-60% gross margin.
Best sellers: PRX 40mm quartz and Powermatic 80, Seastar 1000. Buyer segment: enthusiasts upgrading from fashion watches to their first proper Swiss piece.
Tier C: niche brands, focused audience
7. Daniel Wellington
Instagram-native ladies fashion category. Wholesale from £70, market retail £120-£180. Modest per-unit margin but high conversion on social ads.
8. Emporio Armani
Fashion-forward accessible luxury. Wholesale from £60, market retail £160-£280. Strong in gifting, particularly for women's ranges.
9. Diesel
Streetwear-adjacent chronograph category. Younger male buyer. Wholesale from £58, market retail £160-£300. Around 40-55% gross margin.
10. Bulova
American heritage brand with Precisionist movement differentiator. Wholesale from £190, market retail £350-£600. Around 45-60% gross margin.
Tier D: brands that require the right store to work
Not every brand fits every reseller. These four brands can be profitable in the right context but need audience alignment:
- Fossil. Volume category but very tight margins. Only works at high sales volume with efficient ads.
- Guess. Glamour-focused ladies fashion. Excellent on social commerce, hard to sell through search.
- Burberry. British luxury heritage. Strong in Asian and North American markets, harder in the UK where the brand is over-familiar.
- Tommy Hilfiger. American preppy identity. Gifting-focused, seasonal.
Brands to be cautious about
Some brands look attractive on paper but have practical issues for online resellers:
- Seiko. Fantastic brand with informed enthusiast audience, but wholesale margins are thinner than premium Swiss and buyer expectations on price are extremely tight. Currently restricted for UK delivery in our catalogue.
- Maserati. Strong automotive brand equity but lower search volume than fashion brands. Works well as an attach to a menswear or automotive lifestyle store.
- Swarovski. Small catalogue, glamour-focused ladies segment only. Not a standalone brand strategy.
The formula: brand + margin + audience fit
Highest reseller margins come from matching three things at once: a brand your target audience wants, a wholesale price that leaves you room to compete on the current online market, and a search or social channel where you can reach that audience without paying too much per click.
The premium Swiss brands (TAG Heuer, Gucci) have the best absolute margin per sale. The fashion accessible-luxury brands (Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, Emporio Armani) have the highest volume and most consistent sales. Most successful online watch resellers carry a mix of both.
